University College - About Us

Workforce Education and Development Office (WEDO)

WEDO was established within ASU’s University College in January 2007 to provide research and leadership, to deliver professional development, and to establish a state skills assessment system for career and technical education (CTE) in Arizona.

Working principally with the Arizona Department of Education, this office is charged with collaborating with multiple in-state and out-of-state entities to strengthen human capital development within the Arizona education pipeline, K-12 through postsecondary.

The Arizona CTE delivery system includes Joint Technical Education Districts (JTEDs) comprehensive high schools within unified and union high school districts in the state, and other state-funded CTE providers.

Articulation between secondary and postsecondary institutions (e.g., community colleges, trade and technical schools, and four-year colleges) is required by both state and federal mandates and is within the WEDO scope of work.

The office works closely with Arizona business and industry to identify, update and validate skill standards to guide curriculum instruction for some 70 programs. An Arizona Skill Standards Commission serves to establish skill assessments for CTE programs and documentation of skill attainment for high school students preparing to enter the workforce and/or transitioning to postsecondary education.
