advising and resources

promoting student development and success

The mission of University College Academic Services is to advocate for student success, retention and graduation through purposeful academic relationships and community building.

ASU recognizes that many students are not ready to choose a specific academic program of study when first entering the university. Allowing students the option to declare “exploratory” status permits students to begin meeting General Studies requirements that all ASU graduates must fulfill, as well as taking some time to explore a variety of academic courses that may lead to a potential major interest.

All exploratory students are required to choose one of four major tracks. Major maps for these four tracks are available to provide information regarding appropriate classes, potential majors, etc.

Exploratory—Engineering, Math, Technology & Physical Sciences
(see a listing of ASU majors associated with this exploratory track)

Exploratory—Fine Arts/Humanities/Design
(see a listing of ASU majors associated with this exploratory track)

Exploratory—Health & Life Sciences
(see a listing of ASU majors associated with this exploratory track)

Exploratory—Social/Behavioral Sciences
(see a listing of ASU majors associated with this exploratory track)

University College Academic Advising offices are located on all ASU campuses.

ASU students may remain as exploratory majors until 45 college credits have been earned. Once 45 college credits are earned, students must declare a specific academic major to pursue their degree and register for classes. University College advisors will assist students in explaining the major declaration process for their majors of interest.

University College academic advising also provides assistance for all students seeking information regarding ASU majors and career options.
